Obituary of Mary Clarke

Mary E. Clarke, 102, of Whiting, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Born in New York City, NY, she lived in Queens, NY before moving to Whiting in 1974. Mary was a teacher for the Board of Education of New York City for 35 years, retiring in 1974. She graduated from Jamaica Training School for Teachers in Queens, NY. She was a CCD teacher for 12 years and a communicant and member of the Altar Rosary Society of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Mary was predeceased by her husband, James Clarke in 1962; her brother, Joseph Fay; her two sisters, Agnes Polakiewicz and Rita Fay. She is survived by two children, James G. Clarke and his wife, Mary Anne of Staten Island, NY and Dennis P. Clarke and his wife, Mary Elizabeth of Huntington, CT; five grandchildren, Mary C., James, Laura, Dennis and Kathleen and five great-grandchildren, Briana, Christina, Jessica Brock and Grant. Visitation will be Monday, October 14th from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Manchester Memorial Funeral Home, 28 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:45 a.m. at the All Saints Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Whiting. Interment will be Tuesday, October 15th at St. John Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens, NY.
